Latin America and the Caribbean form a multicultural, multilingual region. Economic conditions throughout the area vary widely, as do educational opportunities, health services, food security and access to health and sanitation facilities. Global Ministries relates to a variety of churches in the region, including autonomous Methodist denominations and ecumenical organizations. Missionaries are placed in collaboration with indigenous churches. Projects range from pastoral education in Peru to clean water projects in Haiti and from clinics in Mexico to ministry among street children in Brazil.

Regional Office

Buenos Aires, Argentina

The regional mission office represents the full spectrum of Global Ministries' program and objectives in Latin America, including the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), developing relationships, and serving as bridges to mission partners. All of the partners in Latin America are autonomous Methodist churches or ecumenical entities.

Buenos Aires has a distinctive place in the history of Methodist mission outreach in Latin America. It was the destination of the first missionary sent to Latin America by the Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church (ME Church), a predecessor of The United Methodist Church.
