Europe and Eurasia

Pastor with young men in Germany

The region encompassing Europe and Eurasia forms a complex historical, cultural and religious tapestry. Centuries of national and sectarian conflict have given way today to considerable economic, social and, at times, quite secular, cooperation. Methodism's roots were in 18th-century Great Britain. Russia, the Baltic countries and other parts of Eastern Europe are church-growth areas, with several former Mission Initiatives forming annual conferences and districts in recent years—increasing the reach of the church in places where Christianity had been previously oppressed. Projects and ministries focus on pastor and lay leader education, evangelism, children and youth ministries as well as work to assist migrants and economically marginalized groups.
