Nyamah E. Dunbar, originally from Liberia, is the new West Africa liaison officer for the mission work of The United Methodist Church through its Global Ministries’ agency. The position, based in Liberia, develops and sustains linkages among Global Ministries, the church’s conferences (regional units), and other partners in the area.

Dunbar has served as the country representative in Liberia, West Africa, for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Additionally, Dunbar has worked as the grants officer in Global Ministries’ New York office and later as the senior program manager for the Imagine No Malaria initiative.

Dunbar holds a master’s degree in international management and development from the Kedge Business School in Marseille, France. She is fluent in French as well as English.

“Dunbar brings a wealth of knowledge to this important role. Dunbar’s international development, capacity building, and budget oversight expertise as well as her deep understanding of The United Methodist Church will enable Global Ministries to continue to strengthen its partnerships and programs in West Africa. We are honored to have her join the Global Mission Connections’ Africa team,” General Secretary, Thomas Kemper stated.

When asked about her new position Dunbar stated, “The United Methodist Church in the Western African region—hosting the largest membership of United Methodists on the continent—holds the potential for evangelism through mission and ministry, which is a key expression of development from secular and faith-based perspectives. My hope and prayer is that God will guide me in the best means of fulfilling what this position will require.”

Dunbar will start in her new position August 2017.
