Thomas Kemper's Christmas Message
By Thomas Kemper*
In the Gospel according to John, it is written, “The word became flesh….”
Earlier this month, visiting the areas across the Southeast and Caribbean which were devastated this fall by hurricanes, I had the opportunity to spend some time with our sisters and brothers in Christ in Puerto Rico. There I experienced a church of resiliency, hope, and community.
The Methodist Church of Puerto Rico, working with partners such as the United Methodist Committee on Relief, is a source of hope and wholeness in a shattered landscape: a sign of Word Becoming Flesh, God living among us.
As we enter into Christmas, we remember the Gospel invites us to accept, to really believe, that the world belongs to God, and God brings light and reconciliation into a world often torn and tortured and deprived.
Dare to believe that God is with us at Christmas 2017 and into all the New Years before us.
