Mission Minute: Helen De Leon Camarce
Helen De Leon Camarce is a missionary currently serving as treasurer
for the Cambodia and Southeast Asia Mission. Helen provides support services for the missionary communities, local church partners, episcopal leaders, an expanding number of clergy, and denominational interests. She is originally from Manila, Philippines and she currently serves with various agencies of the Philippine Central Conference. Having worked for the church in several different capacities, find out what Helen understands mission to be.
What is mission?
Camarce: “Mission is when God puts you wherever you are, with whatever skills or talent God had given you, using them to help impact the people who come to you for help.”
Why is mission necessary?
Camarce: “Because it transformative. It transforms a person, not just the beneficiary but also the one in mission. When you transform a person you transform a whole community. That’s why I think mission is really necessary, because it teaches and educates; it changes people.”
As part of a series, we are asking guests at Global Ministries offices in NYC to share their definition of mission. We ask each guest two questions: “What is mission?” and “Why is mission necessary?”
