Advance #731372

#731372 - Providing home repair to address substandard housing issues that are linked to poor health

Annual Goal: $369,250.00
Location: United States

Describe the need affecting the community:

Research supports that zip code is a better predictor of health than genetics and that substandard housing is directly linked to poor health. Over 58% of the children in the county live in low-income homes and 20% of the population in general lives in poverty.

How will this Advance project help to address the need?

Working in connection with health care providers and the Clay County Health Department, we will provide education, home repair, and other improvements that will decrease the factors that lead to poor health.

Describe the primary goal of the project.

The primary goal of the project is to improve substandard housing in rural Appalachia with a focus on issues that are directly related to respiratory diseases.

Measurable Changes:

Awareness that adequate housing options is an essential component of good health, and decline in the number of diagnoses for respiratory diseases.
