Connecting the Church in Mission

Bailey M. Martin

Serving At: Sunbeam Languages and Vocational Center

Home Country: United States of America, North America

B. Martin is a Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service. She was commissioned in August 2017.

The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.

Martin is from North Little Rock, Arkansas, where she is a member of the First United Methodist Church, a congregation of the Arkansas Annual Conference. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Centenary College of Louisiana, Shreveport, and has worked as a laboratory supervisor, a substitute teacher, and a youth ministry intern.

Actively involved in her church since childhood, Martin developed a strong personal faith in God during college years, partly because it was an environment of religious and social diversity that did not automatically support her suppositions. Through one-on-one talks with the director of the school’s Christian Leadership Center, she began to articulate “what I believed… For the first time in my life, I had a relationship with God. My faith life became an integral part of my life.”
Her call to mission service emerged from that awareness, specifically though talks with her mentor that led to the exploration of the Global Mission Fellows program. “I knew this was what God was calling me to do at this point in my life. I have always been passionate about being in community with God’s people, and now God is calling me to experience his world on a whole new level.”
