Jesus Mind Methodist Church
Home Country: Kenya, Africa
Marygoret Makhupe is a Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service. She was commissioned in August 2017.
The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.
Marygoret is from Nairobi, Kenya, where she is part of the Cathedral of Praise Ministries. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in design from Kenyatta University, Nairobi. She has worked as a ceramic tile designer and as an artist for the National Museums of Kenya.
A faithful disciple of Jesus Christ since high school, she was introduced to mission opportunities in college. “I realized that in addition to studying to get a job and maybe a family that God wanted me to take part in the Great Commission—sharing God’s love to all nations. This became a strong conviction.”
Her preparation for the mission included years of “discipleship classes, mission expositions, youth conferences, Bible studies and taking part in the life of her church and community.” Prayer and mentors were also influential.
