Destiny Jones is a Global Mission Fellow with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, engaged in a two-year term of service. She was commissioned in August 2017.
The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.
Destiny is from the state of Mississippi in the United States where she is a member of the New Life Empowerment Temple in Fayette. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from Alcorn State University in Alcorn. Destiny has worked as a resident assistant at the university and in the food industry.
Although she grew up in the church, Destiny counts a day in September 2013 as her personal and spiritual rebirth: “I accepted Christ into my heart.” Since then she has grown in faith and understanding of the “unending, never-failing love and grace of God in Christ. It’s a love I aspire to be able to give to people.”
Destiny says that her call to mission “is a part of getting out of my comfort zone and her familiar surroundings for the sake of the glory of God.”
