Connecting the Church in Mission

IMG_5637.JPGThis missionary has completed service. His advance number will remain active until December 31, 2018.

A missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, Mark Stransky is a Church and Community Worker serving as coordinator of housing rehab at Project Crossroads in Marion, Virginia, in the Holston Annual Conference.

Project Crossroads is an outreach ministry designed to address the basic needs of people in the Marion area, alleviate human suffering, and provide an avenue to witness the gospel of Jesus Christ. Along with the housing rehabilitation and homeownership programs, Project Crossroads provides a variety of ministries to the community, including a firewood delivery; Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for the poor; and emergency assistance to upgrade homes' electrical systems, repair or replace plumbing systems, and install heating systems.

Mark was born in Hastings, Nebraska and raised in San Diego, California. His journey toward mission began after struggling with his faith during his college years. Initially attending San Diego State University, where he met his wife Linda, Mark later earned a degree in fisheries at Shasta College in Redding, California.

Becoming a member of the Yreka United Methodist Church and serving in Iowa with Linda, who is an ordained minister, were important parts to Mark's spiritual pilgrimage. The idea of serving others as a way of life began to take shape for Mark during Linda's seminary years and his Emmaus Walk, and continued to grow as he participated in mission trips, community service, and Bible studies.

When Mark and Linda made a commitment to church ministry, he saw his role as more supportive while Linda pastored. After much discussion and prayer they felt called to do mission together. His life experiences having had a major influence on his mission calling, Mark enjoys the challenge of living out Matthew 25 ministries (Matthew 25 is about "doing to the 'least of these.'")

Mark has been employed in the propane and woodworking industries. Mark and Linda, married in January 1973, are parents of three adult children and six grandchildren. He has a great love for the outdoors and enjoys camping and fishing, especially fly fishing.
