Rev. Jae Hyoung Choi is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. Jaehyoung (Jay) serves as a missionary in residence at the headquarters of Global Ministries in Atlanta, GA, USA.
The role of Missionary-in-Residence (MIR) is to serve as a liaison between the mission personnel associations, Global Ministries staff, and directors. The position was established by Global Ministries to provide input and advocacy for the missionary community to Global Ministries.
Before becoming MIR, Jay worked as a missionary in the Philippines for 18 years. His work at Union Theological Seminary, Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines was to promote biblical teachings on land and ecological justice.
A native of Daegu City in South Korea, Jay earned a B.A. in economics from Young Nam University in Daegu, and an M.Div from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Gwangnaru, Seoul, and was ordained in 2003. Later, he studied sociology (MS) at Asian Social Institute and theology (MDiv).
Jay served as a volunteer missionary after graduating from college. He also served as treasurer of the Bethel Missionary Training Ministries and volunteer missionary to Cardona Bethel UMC, Morong Bethel UMC, and Kasile UMC - all in the Philippines (1994-1996).
After his commissioning as a GBGM missionary, Jay's first assignment was as youth adviser for the Philippines Annual Conference (PAC) for 7 years (2002-2008).
A full member of the Philippines Annual Conference, Jay is married to Rev. Grace Choi, also a Global Ministries missionary, and they are the parents of two sons, Soo Hoon and Ji Hoon.
