Prayers for the safety, steadfastness of Middle Eastern Christians on Orthodox Christmas
The Virgin Mary and baby Jesus.
The General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church sends warm Christmas greetings to our Eastern and Oriental Christian friends, sisters, and brothers and prays for the safety of their communities as they observe Orthodox Christmas (January 7, 2018). We invite all Methodists to join us in these prayers for steadfastness in the midst of rising hate and violence. It is in this season that Orthodox churches and communities are oftenhave been targeted by terrorists violent attacks in some parts of the world. We join with the World Council of Churches in condemning a December 29 attack on a Coptic Orthodox Church near Cairo, Egypt, leaving 10 dead. We ask civil governments to protect the rights and freedoms of all religious groups.
