Describe the need affecting the community.
Families with jobs need child care and CEC is the only faith-based daycare in Shiprock. It is also the only daycare that accepts private pay parents. Navajo Nation has several childcare facilities in the area but persons who exceed their financial needs base cannot put their children in those facilities. Doctors and nurses at the hospital, and employees of the utility company and school system would have to go off reservation for childcare if we were not here. We are filling a gap for our community.
How will this Advance project help to address the need?
Not only do we provide good childcare, we provide it for all working parents and students who are attending a college, university or vocational school. We are enabling families to be self-sufficient and contribute to the local economy. As a faith based ministry, we can help families in their spiritual walks and help them raise their children in the faith.
Describe the primary goal of the project.
To provide a strong spiritual base for our providers that they may contribute to the well-being of the children placed in our care, both physically and spiritually in a safe environment.
Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project.
I would like the community know that not only do we provide reliable and safe childcare, we offer an opportunity for the child and the family to grow in their faith. To have parents take their responsibility of "raising up a child in the way that they should go so they will not depart from it when they are old" seriously (Pro 22:6).
