Advance #3020757

#3020757 - Rebuilding a relationship between the United Methodist Church and the people of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes

Annual Goal:$5,000.00
Location: United States North America
Partner:The UMC, Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference

Describe the need affecting the community.

the immediate need effecting the community is assistance with children's school needs. Although many schools supply each child with certain items needed in class, the list becomes longer and longer each year. Often parents will come looking for assistance with school clothing and school extra curricular activity needs.

How will this Advance project help to address the need?

Our project helps by being a mediator between programs and conference. I meet with families and single parents to give them information of resources that will assist with child needs. Our project is used for meeting areas because it is in the area of need. I am able to share news of updates or changes within the assisting agencies for the local area of project. The project is able to report to agencies of the positive changes and other challenges that face those in need of the community or neighborhood.

Describe the primary goal of the project.

primary goal for the project: to rebuild a relationship between the United Methodist Church and the people of the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes. The long term impact hopes to bring mutual understanding, acceptance and awareness of indigenous social and health issues to the forefront.

Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project.

One change I would like to see in the community is a new sense of trust from native people with the Church as a whole. Another change would be stronger involvement of tribes with the project and local native american churches. more involvement from region churches and conferences
