Relationship to UMC

Global Mission Fellows is a program of The United Methodist Church. It is open to every denominational background but Fellows must be willing to represent The United Methodist Church and uphold its Social Principles. The Wesleyan value of personal and social holiness is at the core of this program.

Global Mission Fellows are commissioned and sent by Global Ministries, which is the mission agency of The United Methodist Church. Global Ministries (which includes the United Methodist Committee on Relief) connects the church in mission through its four mission goals:

●     Make disciples of Jesus Christ;

●     Strengthen, develop, and renew Christian congregations and communities;

●     Alleviate human suffering;

●     Seek justice, freedom, and peace.

Global Ministries is one of several UMC agencies that resources the larger denomination.

Because Fellows are commissioned as United Methodist missionaries, they have a global support network. As missionaries, Global Mission Fellows receive a email address, special training on fundraising and itineration, an Advance number, relocation expenses, paid time off, health insurance, the ability to form covenant relationships with local churches and be part of the missionary network, and many other resources from Global Ministries.

Creating opportunities for young adults through Generation Transformation is a priority for Global Ministries. Young adults have a critical role as agents of change in The United Methodist Church.
