The Evangelical Methodist Church in Nicaragua (IGLEMEN) was born in 1994, but did not begin to blossom until 2000 when the church began emphasizing evangelism and Pentecostal renewal. With assistance from Global Ministries and the British Methodist Church, Nicaraguan pastors are being trained in Wesleyan Theology to ensure that each of the existing congregations has a Methodist-trained pastor. Global Ministries also supports IGLEMEN’s participation in with the Churches of Christ in Nicaragua (Iglesias de Cristo de Nicaragua) to promote church growth and development in impoverished communities.
Global Ministries also supports the church’s ministry to women, children and impoverished communities through support of community health and development, a woman’s clinic, and the building wells, latrines and greenhouses to provide clean water and improve sanitation in the region.
Between 10 and 14 Volunteer-in-Mission teams visit the country annually to work with local congregations throughout the country. The mission partiIGLEMEN receives between 10 and 14 groups of volunteers in mission from the UMC, who collaborate in various activities to help congregations across the country.
