Mission Minute: Jean Claude Masuka Maleka
Rev. Jean Claude Masuka Maleka is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries assigned to evangelism and church planting in Côte D’Ivoire, where he is currently based in Abidjan. Maleka was assigned to Côte D’Ivoire in 2013. Before then he worked on planting churches in Kenya. Establishing new faith communities presents unique opportunities and challenges. Learn how these experiences have shaped Maleka’s view of mission.
What is mission?
Maleka: “My understanding of mission is obeying the great commission. When we obey the great commission it’s like worshiping God, worshiping God by going to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. And when we change a person, that person can change the community. By changing the community we can change a country, and by changing a country we can change the world.”
Why is mission necessary?
Maleka: “It’s necessary because it’s bringing change. It’s trying to move from a certain point to another point. Because it’s good news coming from Christ to the life of a person, that person will be transformed and will never be the same. That’s why it’s really necessary, because that person will be changed and that person will change the community.”
