NEWS: REINTEGRATING PRISONERS In New York, more than 7,000 individuals are released from New York State prisons each year. Research indicates that three out of 10 people return to prison within three years of release—mostly because they have difficulty reentering society.
The Healing Communities Network (HCN) works with both men and women prisoners during and after incarceration, helping them to direct their own rehabilitation through support groups that build self-esteem and community.
A grant from Global Ministries to HCN will support this work and provide assistance in specific ways that will help prisoners reenter society. One way is by helping them overcome the stigma and guilt associated with past behaviors and helping them become productive members of society by remaining crime-free.
Through program activities led by trained facilitators, many of whom were formerly incarcerated, a four-part meeting structure will pave the way for healing and restoration. The four-part sessions are identified as Self-Affirmation, Stresses and Concerns, Making a Plan and Reflections, and Clearing, which are closing comments.
The program also offers housing and employment assistance, job training, substance abuse and treatment, and other social services.
PRAYER: YOUTH 2015 Beginning today through June 28, Youth 2015 is equipping youth and youth leaders for service and providing them the opportunity to experience and express their faith in new ways. Global Ministries’ Mission Advocate Rachel deBos, offers this prayer for those gathering in Orlando, Florida, this week:
How great it is to be loved by you!
Because of you, YOUTH 2015 creates a space for young people to gather, question, and discern their faith journey with You. Bless the conversations and relationships that will form during this amazing event. May the time spent with each other be fruitful and life-giving. Traveling mercies for all the young people, staff, and presenters who will be traveling to Orlando for YOUTH 2015, keep us safe.
Thank you, we love you.

David shares his personal challenge of ‘reigning in the passion’ to do more in ministry, yet recognizes his role to simply walk alongside those he serves under the grace of God.
David serves as a church developer with the Evangelical Methodist Church of Panama (IEMPA), specifically in the area of Punta Delgadita, near Santiago de Veraguas, and Cynthia is a community health coordinator for a ministry linked to Punta Delgadita.
