Background/History
People living in the areas covered by the project (eastern and southeastern Kentucky) did not have access to good used clothing and household items. In addition, employment opportunities were few in those areas.
At this time, 9 different counties in the area covered by the project contain Opportunity Stores ? places where folks can be employed and can also obtain good used clothing and household items. Also two United Methodist churches receive support from the United Methodist Mountain Mission.
Goals & Objectives
Clothing and household items at affordable prices are provided to folks in areas of need (through 9 Opportunity Stores in 9 different counties).
Employment opportunities are provided in those areas (currently 66 people are employed through the United Methodist Mountain Mission).
Enhance spiritual growth through its churches to the people of the areas (2 local United Methodist churches are supported).
Activities Plan
Continue to operate the Opportunity Stores ? continue to pick up donated items and take these to the various stores
Continue to provide employment, including benefits, such as affordable health insurance.
Continue to work with the local United Methodist churches to minister to the community.
