Background/History

UMCOR has been serving South Sudan since 2006. Programs initially focused on education, health, and sanitation for displaced populations. UMCOR has since expanded these programs and added programs that promote agriculture and food security, access to clean water supply, and capacity building of local institutions. Originally a field office of UMCOR Sudan, after the January 2011 referendum that resulted in South Sudanese independence, UMCOR's South Sudan office became a separate country office in the new Republic of South Sudan.
