First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro, North Carolina became one of the "sites" for GBGM work on ministry with the poor. Further association with the creator of Circles, Move the Mountain, led to the establishment of a UM Network of Circles Trainers who were trained in January 2011. The trainers have since established UMC led Circles sites in various conferences across the US.
The need for this project is to take the early learning of Circles in the 43 pilot sites in 7 states and grow across the US with significant leadership and support from the United Methodist Church. This project will ensure that each state has at least one Circles UMC chapter and those Circles chapters that are not lead by UMC partnerships will have collaborations with local UMC churches.
Circles® continues to expand across North American with over 70 different communities participating.
Goals & Objectives
a. To increase the number of Circles/UMC partnerships across North America
b. To provide support and funding for local Circles sites
c. To assist under resourced individuals and families in building strong healthy relationships, long-term goals towards self-sufficiency and address community barriers that exacerbate the fallout of poverty
The CirclesUSA Advance fund will specifically assist local Circles® chapters to carry out the Circles Model. All funds that are donated to CirclesUSA through the Advance will go to the local Circles® chapters to strengthen their partnership with the United Methodist church partners, to assist under resourced individual and families to build strong healthy relationships and long term economic stability goals towards self-sufficiency and address community barriers that exacerbate the fallout of poverty. CirclesUSA will act as an intermediary to support the relationship with the General Board of Global Missions on behalf of the over 70 Circles Chapters across North America.
All funds given through the Advance Fund will be distributed to local Circles sites to support their efforts in implementing Circles®.
