Partner:Evangelical Methodist Church in Bolivia
Describe the need affecting the community.
There are a large number of abandoned and orphaned children in Bolivia. In February 2016, there were 70 children in one government operated emergency home awaiting placement. There are many, many other children needing permanent homes.
How will this Advance project help to address the need?
The Methodist Home for Children will provide a Christian, loving home for up to 20 children. There are currently 16 children in the home and additional admissions are anticipated soon.
Describe the primary goal of the project.
The goal of this project is to provide a safe, loving, Christian Home for abandoned and orphaned children in Bolivia. The home is needed because Bolivia has an extremely large number of abandoned and orphaned children. Since Bolivia is the poorest country in South America, there are few quality programs providing a supportive Christian environment to care for those children. Providing this safe, loving, Christian home and a quality education and vocational training will allow them to gain the skills the need to succeed when they turn 18 and have to leave the home.
Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project.
The success of the home will ultimately be measured by how well the children do as adults. The home strives to provide the children with all the skills and strengths they will need to succeed, including a strong spiritual foundation, as well as vocational and home living skills. Some short term measures of success include maintaining full funding for the home, continuing to build the donor base and serving the maximum number of children (20) by December 2016.
