Project Information

Training villagers to become self-sustaining through agriculture, health and appropriate technology.

Describe the need affecting community

The people are hardworking and eager to learn new techniques. They suffer from impoverishment, loss of land to corporations, low levels of education, climate destabilization and arid compromised land. They need more: job opportunities, health services, appropriate housing and sewage, good breed animals and examples of how to raise healthy animals for a healthy environment. Many people still cook on open fires. There is a need for Biblical material culturally sensitive to rural areas. Much of the education we provide is on how to use their local resources and personal abilities to overcome some of their problems and have a better life.

How will this Advance project help to address the need?

The GYTTE ministry facilitates different kinds of educational experiences for people to build upon what they have with the local resources that surround them. While also reinforcing their abilities to apply and implement the eco-technologies learned, and empower others to do the same. People learn by experiencing, practicing, doing and sharing with others.

Describe the primary goal of the project

GIVE YE THEM TO EAT (GYTTE) was founded as a social outreach project of the Methodist Church of Mexico to combat hunger and poverty in the rural sector. The primary goal is to strengthen the capabilities of marginalized people and communities to meet their basic needs, and to determine and sustain a just and integrated development process so people can achieve the full promise and potential of their life as a child of God. Participatory methods and development tools are used to create conditions in which change can take place from within the communities. GYTTE uses people-centered approaches to development. It is through our various programs that this goal is achieved.

Describe the change you would like to see in the community as a result of this Advance project

More individuals and communities empowered and promoting changes within their families and communities using their abilities, and local resources. Transforming lives spiritually and physically with better living and economic conditions – “to have life, and have it in abundance”.
