Nationals in Mission
A Nationals in Mission grant is given in support of someone serving in a missional position in their own country or region.
Global Ministries recognizes the high priority of our partner churches and agencies in developing and supporting national leadership and acknowledges the need for particular attention to pioneer or special ministries which these groups are not able to support alone. Global Ministries’ very basic commitments are to the development of churches and other Christian and non-Christian communities indigenous to the many nations and cultures of the world, and to support local and national leadership in them. Most of the programs, in one way or another, support persons to be in mission within their own lands. We continue to affirm the primary role of indigenous ministries, mission, and leadership and to cooperate with them.
The Nationals in Mission program has been a significant turning point in the life and work of the Global Ministries, partner churches, and agencies. Episcopal and ecumenical leaders in partner nations identify innovative needs and essential tasks in their area and apply for support to supplement the expense of hiring qualified nationals to fulfill the need.
The Nationals in Mission program enables the transition from a missionary community based predominantly on United States personnel to the emergence of national leadership that has resulted in a more diverse combination of missionary and other local/national personnel. The program functions differently in each region to meet differing and/or unique regional needs.
The Nationals in Mission grants emphasizes support of persons in emerging, innovative ministries, and in some circumstances Nationals in Mission grants can be used to support church administrative and other positions. A higher priority will be given to ministries other than administrative related ones.
