Pilgrim Wesleyan Church
Home Country: Zimbabwe, Africa
Michelle Bingepinge is a Global Mission Fellow of the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries, serving for two years as communications and media officer with Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Zambia. She was commissioned in September 2016.
The Global Mission Fellows program takes young adults ages 20-30 out of their home environments and places them in new contexts for mission experience and service. The program has a strong emphasis on faith and justice. Global Mission Fellows become active parts of their new local communities. They connect the church in mission across cultural and geographical boundaries. They grow in personal and social holiness and become strong young leaders working to build just communities in a peaceful world.
The Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Zambia, a constituent part of the Wesleyan Church based in Indiana (USA), sponsors a range of ministries focused on health and social and economic empowerment, with a special emphasis on vulnerable children. It is part of the Zambia Council of Churches, an ecumenical agency whose programs address the challenges of women and children. Zambia has 1.6 million orphans and vulnerable children. Michelle’s work involves telling the stories of human needs and the church’s response.
Michelle is from Mutare, Zimbabwe, where she is a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in the Zimbabwe East Annual Conference. She holds a graduate degree in business from the United Methodist-related Africa University, also in Mutare. She has worked in the hospitality industry.
On her faith journey, Michelle says she learned something new about God every day. She feels an especially strong emphasis at this stage of life on repentance, forgiveness, holiness, righteousness, truth, humility, and complete surrender to Jesus Christ. She pursues these goals with help from the Holy Spirit.
“My call to mission,” Michelle says, “started as a burning desire to evangelize. I started with myself and moved to my family and community and, now, I will be moving to communities in other nations.”
