The Rev. William Llanos Zúñiga is a missionary with the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries serving in a pastoral team with his wife, the Rev. Rocio Bárcenas Jáuregui, in an area of northeastern Argentina along the Uruguay River. The work is in partnership with the Evangelical Methodist Church of Argentina and is coordinated with the Methodist Church of Uruguay because of the location.
The ministry incorporates a group of congregations in the regions of Costa del Río del Uruguay and Concepción del Uruguay along the Argentinian side of the river that separates Argentina and Uruguay. This area has some 370,000 people. These ministries involve worship, Bible study, prayer groups, leadership development, and outreach to young people.
Rev. Llanos Zúñiga was born and grew up in Peru, but is an ordained elder of the Methodist Church of Colombia, which is his wife's native country. He entered ministry in 1997 and was ordained an elder in 2006. He received a graduate degree in theology in Cali.
William says that his life was changed at a church camp when he was 17 years old. He began a "faith adventure…in service to the kingdom of heaven. I began to work with a group of marginalized children…I learned to play the guitar and sing with them, to paint, to draw, to play. This experience changed my life and I decided to become an educator. During this process, I came to know evangelistic ministry with children--with clowns, puppets, music, games, and mimes. I became part of this ministry and it became part of me. This kindled my desire to study mission."
He says that his ministry is strengthened by the words of Jesus, "The harvest is large but there are few workers..."(Matthew 9:37)
William and his wife have two children, Pamela Jocabed and Andrés Felipe.
