The Rev. Christine Erb-Kanzleiter is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church currently serving in the Southern Germany Conference. She serves as pastor of Peace United Methodist Church, an international, English-speaking congregation located in Munich, Germany.
Describing her ministry, Christine shares “I share my faith by living as a minister, a mother, a friend, and counselor with many people. I share by preaching, listening, and responding to people’s stories, by comforting those who mourn and suffer, by sharing, sheltering, by protecting and encouraging, by enabling and educating.”
She says that she has often felt God’s presence in her work, “especially in the work with refugees who are often deeply traumatized by injustice and violence, who come from all over the world. I share my faith by bearing the love and tenderness, the sympathy and even the anger about inhumanity and injustice of an unconditionally loving God into my and others’ lives.”
Christine has been serving with Peace Church since 2000. Prior to that, she served as a hospital chaplain in the Martha-Maria Hospital in Munich. She also served as an associate pastor at the Reutlingen Erlserkirch before moving to Munich, where her husband, the Rev. Reiner Kanzleiter, serves as pastor at Friedenskirche, the German-speaking United Methodist church with which the Peace Church shares facilities.
A native of Stuttgart, in the southern region of Germany, Christine studied theology at the United Methodist Theological Seminary in Reutlingen from 1984-88; in 1990 she was ordained as a clergy member of the South Germany Conference.
Christine and Reiner are the parents of two sons, Jacob and Nicolas.
