Serving as a Church and Community Worker with the Community Development for All People Corporation (CDC) in Columbus, Ohio, , Esq., is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.
Associated with The United Methodist Church for All People, The CDC is a faith-based, nonprofit community development organization dedicated to creating a community and church that welcomes and cares for all people, and works to improve the economic, social, and spiritual quality of life for residents of the Southside.
As a Church and Community Worker, lawyer, community developer, and faith-based social activist, Deborah works not only in the Southside of Columbus but also throughout the West Ohio Conference to connect the church and community through education, advocacy, and community organizing around social justice issues related to global and domestic poverty. In particular, Deborah works to synthesize the new spiritual awakening and social justice movement occurring in the nation and the world--to find common ground to effectively address some of the biggest issues of our time: extreme and needless poverty, climate change, environmental degradation, hunger, homelessness, and education.
Born in Georgia, Deborah attended Barnard College in New York City and majored in Urban Studies. She continued her education at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where she earned her J.D. in Law. Deborah worked with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services as staff attorney and chief legal counsel prior to her position with Global Ministries.
"My compassion and growing concern for the poor and dispossessed draws me to pursue a more deliberate and structured way of responding to their plight, leading me to a vocation of mission service," Deborah shares. She feels God has placed a desire and interest in social justice advocacy in her heart, a journey that began early in her life.
Deborah is a member of The United Methodist Church for All People in Columbus, Ohio.
